Find the Right Person on Social Media
An eDiscovery Industry White Paper

POSTED ON November 29, 2017

By Andy Adkins, CIO, Social Evidence – Social media has become a “whole ‘nother” culture in itself, with its own language, its own relationships, and its own world. No matter what studies yosocial-business-hands-reach2-ss-1920u read, the numbers are all about the same: according to Statista, “in 2017, 81% of U.S. Americans had a social media profile, representing a five percent growth compared to the previous year. According to estimates, the number of worldwide social media users reached 1.96 billion and is expected to grow to some 2.5 billion by 2018.”

The most popular social media platforms are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Pinterest. The list is growing, but you get the idea. With so many people using social media, how do you know who’s doing what and on what platform? As a practicing legal professional, you are no doubt aware of the impact of social media and the fact that with so many of your clients using social media, there is a goldmine of information; not only about your clients, but also about other interested parties to that case. You can no longer ignore this fact – if you don’t get the information first, opposing counsel will certainly have it before you. My dad (a lawyer) always said, “don’t ask a question that you don’t already know the answer.”

Social Evidence® is developing a cloud-based application that will easily and accurately capture and store targeted social media information and provide you with an arsenal of tools to slice andCarole Levitt and Mark Rosch-smaller dice that data, helping you find and present relevant legal matter information in a repeatable, admissible, and legally-defensible format. To that extent, Andy Adkins, CIO of Social Evidence, partnered with two of the legal profession’s top cybersleuths, Carole Levitt and Mark Rosch of Internet for Lawyers, to develop an eDiscovery industry white paper titled, “Finding the Right Person on Social Media.”

The authors describe mostly unknown tips and tricks for reliably finding people on the major social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube. This all-in-one guide will help you discover things you had never thought about and provide you with tools to not only find the right person, but also how to locate other case-related information along the way.
